Christmas in Newark
Capture the real spirit of Christmas in Newark on Sunday 30 November, when the celebrations get under way in the Market Place. Enjoy festive films shown on the big screen and pick up a few last minute gifts from the craft stalls and shops. Visit the Parish Church for a look at the decorated trees and take off the chill with mulled wine, mince pies, hot chestnuts and other tasty treats. From the jazz and blues-inflected soul and gospel songs of Choir Invisible to traditional carols from local school children, there’ll be plenty of music to get you in the mood. Whether you’re eight or 80, you’ll be entranced by the family musical A Christmouse Tale – the juggling skills of the Gandinis will amaze you – and don’t forget to look out for Santa, who’ll be arriving in style on his reindeer-drawn sleigh! The entertainment reaches a peak as darkness falls, with dramatic fire juggling from the Gandinis setting the scene for the moment when the real countdown begins. The last few seconds tick away on the big screen, the Town Mayor steps up to the plunger and Christmas finally comes to Newark in a blaze of lights and fireworks. As the smoke clears and the last strains of music fade away, it’s time to take a short stroll across to the Parish Church where there’s a warm welcome waiting for all at the Community Carol Service. Start as you mean to go on for the festive season and join in the fun of our family-friendly Switch-On Sunday. It’s going to be a cracker of a Christmas in Newark! |
