CAR PARK SECURITY

We aim to make our car parking safe and secure.

Tolney Lane car park was awarded Secured Car Park status in 2003 and we now have 3 more secured car parks in Newark and Southwell that have been warded the  'Park Mark' Safer Parking Award. These are Church Street car park in Southwell and Appletongate and the Livestock Market car parks in Newark .

CCTV cameras cover all Newark car parks and car park staff carry out routine patrols around the car parks. Both Southwell car parks have CCTV as does the Leisure Centre and we aim to install CCTV in Ollerton and Edwinstowe in the future.

If you notice a light out in any car parks contact the markets and car parks office on 01636655721 (leave a message on the answer phone if no reply) or e-mail community.services@nsdc.info with the car park and lamp number.

VEHICLE CRIME - DON'T GET CAUGHT OUT!

Don’t encourage thieves to break into your car by leaving things on view. Things that are often stolen include: computer equipment, stereo equipment, bags, briefcases and cameras.

Thieves can be tempted by anything including an old coat, a packet of cigarettes, or a plastic bag and if there is an opportunity to break into the car they will take it. So take some precautions.

'The best precaution against theft from your vehicle is not to leave anything valuable in it.'

If you have a garage, use it. If it is full of clutter - clear it out, so that your car can be put away. Always lock your vehicle and garage. If you don't have a garage, always park in a well-lit, open place.

When you park your car away from home, always avoid places that are unattended, have easy access, are concealed from public view or have easy escape routes.

It only takes a few seconds for someone to jump into your car and drive it away, so always remove the ignition key and lock your car, even if you are only away for a few minutes, paying for petrol or nipping into a shop.

Fit a removable stereo (and remove it when you leave your car).
Locks and other security devices are always great ways to secure your vehicle and put off would-be thieves
Fit (and use) an immobiliser.
Have your Vehicle Registration Number etched on all glass surfaces including the side windows and headlamps.
Mark all your valuables - especially those that you frequently carry in your vehicle.
Use mechanical immobilisers - such as steering-wheel locks or locking wheel nuts.
Fit a vehicle tracking device.
