We are currently experiencing intermittent faults with our automated payment line, which is resulting in some customers being unable to pay their council tax via this method. Whilst we are urgently trying to resolve the matter please note the other methods of payment are detailed below.
We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.
You can pay your council tax by any of the following methods:
The simplest and most convenient way to pay your council tax is by direct debit. Your payments can be spread over 10 or 12 months from April and you can choose to set up your instalments to pay on the 1st, 8th, 15th, 21st and 28th of each month.
Once the direct debit has been set up, you will receive a bill that will list the instalment amounts, and the date they will be requested, unless that day falls on a weekend or Bank holiday in which case it will requested on the next working day.
Generally if you pay by 10 months on the 1st of the month then the first payment is May and the last payment is February. If you pay on any other date then they start in April and finish in January.
The only exception is if you move house part way through the financial year then they may be given extra instalments at the end of the financial year. If for any reason, your council tax liability changes, we must give you 14 days notice of any amended instalments.
Setting up a direct debit is easy. Simply telephone the council tax office to supply your bank details, or if you wish to make any changes, and our staff will do the rest for you.
Alternatively you can download a Council Tax Direct Debit Form (PDF File, 211kb) .
You can pay over the phone using a credit or debit card. Please call 01636 650000 and choose the option for our 24 hour automated payment line.
