Ways to pay your council tax

Customer ServicesYou can pay your council tax by any of the following methods:

Paying your council tax by direct debit

Paying by direct debit helps us keep our collection costs down, which helps us keep your Council Tax bill lower. You can pay your council tax by direct debit on the 1st, 8th, 15th, 21st or 28th of the month.

Setting up a direct debit is easy. Simply telephone the council tax office to supply your bank details, or if you wish to make any changes, and our staff will do the rest for you.

Paying your council tax by telephone

You can pay over the phone using a debit card.  Please call 01636 650000 during office hours, or use our 24 hour telephone payments line, by phoning 01636 655978.

Please make sure that you have ready:

  • your debit card
  • your council tax account number
  • the amount you wish to pay
  • a pen to record the transaction number

Paying your council tax by post

You can send your payment by post by sending your cheque made payable to Newark and Sherwood District Council to:

Please write your name, address and council tax account number on the back of the cheque. Please note that receipts are not sent for these payments.

Paying your council tax in person

You can pay by cash, cheque, postal order or debit card at any of our local offices.

By Cash or Cheque at one of our offices

If you pay by cash at any of our offices, please ensure that you obtain a receipt from the cashier.        

Paying your council tax on-line

The service is provided by Santander's BillPay scheme on behalf of the council. You do not need to be a Santander account holder. The service is available 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
