Future First Expo

Future First EXPO is the first of its kind in Newark & Sherwood. It is an innovative and interactive expo that showcases everything the area has to offer in terms of careers, training and education. The day will provide new training and employment opportunities and it is free to attend.

The Expo will give those attending an exciting, inspirational and thought provoking experience.

The event will take place on 4th May 2017 and is being held at Newark Showground. The day commences at 9:30am until 4:30pm and there is no requirement to book, just turn up on the day.

Growing Your Business Health Check Clinic

Newark & Sherwood District Council in partnership with D2N2 Growth Hub is offering FREE, one to one sessions for guidance and support to help you grow your business.

If you need valuable advice and insight to help your business flourish then this business clinic is for you. You will be given the opportunity to pose questions, get practical tips and obtain incisive information.

In this one-to-one 90 minute session, a D2N2 Growth Hub Business Adviser will be available to give you the right advice for your business needs. So whether you need access to finance to expand, guidance on the latest legislation or practical business support, you will be provided with up-to-date, valuable and relevant information.

Depending on your business needs, a follow-up business review can also be arranged which is a free of charge service to small and medium sized enterprises across the D2N2 region.

Once you have connected with the D2N2 Growth Hub you will also have access to workshops and events, regular updates on the latest funding news and they will keep you informed of any regional or national programmes that will help with your growth plans.

The D2N2 Growth Hub is a vital network for growing and ambitious businesses across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. 

Running a successful business can be a challenge. With the right support and professional guidance your journey to drive your business forward and unlock challenges can be made easier.

Understanding Enterprise

This two day training course is aimed at delegates who would benefit from in depth knowledge on how to go self-employed and covers the skills that you'll need to start and manage a successful business. Completion of the two days also leads to a National accredited qualification.

Day one will cover what you need to know in order to set up a successful business:

  • Assessing your ability to run a successful business
  • Identifying a viable business
  • Choosing your business structure
  • Understand tax and National Insurance responsibilities
  • Understand legislation affecting new start businesses

Day two will show you how to set up a simple money management system for your new business:

  • Calculating your business pricing structure
  • Understanding tax implications and responsibilities
  • Claimable expenses
  • Producing a cash-flow forecast
  • Keeping financial records
  • Considering ways of raising finance
  • Identifying sources of external expertise

Starting in Business Programme

If you're looking to start up a new business and need assistance to help develop you business idea you can attend the Starting in Business Programme.

This four day course open to pre-start businesses provides everything you need to know to get your small business up and running. The course aimed at people who would benefit from in-depth knowledge on how to become self-employed or start their own small business. Over three weeks this course covers all of the skills that you'll need to start and manage a successful small business.

Growing Places Fund

Round four of the Growing Places Fund is now open offering loans between £250,000 and £2million to individual companies or organisations to finance capital (building and infrastructure) investment, resulting in business growth and job creation.

Funded projects must be located within D2N2 LEP’s area, covered by the administrative boundaries of Derby City, Derbyshire County, Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County local authorities.

Funding is limited and preference will be given to projects which deliver on the LEP’s strategic priorities and key areas of economic focus. More information on these is available on the D2N2 Website and in its Strategic Economic Plan.

Applicants will need to return their Expression of Interest form to Lewis Stringer by email to lewis.stringer@nottinghamcity.gov.uk 

There is no cut off date by which applications must be received, at this time, though applicants are encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible.

Pioneer 10

Pioneer 10 is a new and free business awards and growth programme which is open to start-ups and ambitious SMEs across Nottinghamshire. It offers free business training workshops along with the opportunity to win a package of support up to the value of £25,000

Pioneer 10 offer a series of workshops that are free to attend for start-up and growth businesses across Nottinghamshire. The events will take place at the three Nottinghamshire Innovation Centres– Mansfield i-Centre, Newark Beacon and Worksop Turbine which are managed by Oxford Innovation

Delegates will be encouraged to use the knowledge gained from the workshops to submit their business idea for the Pioneer10 awards programme.

Ten start-up or growth businesses will be selected to receive one to one coaching and guidance from our experienced business experts. This stage will open up a world of new possibilities for business owners and significantly increase their chances of success.

The panel of judges, taken from business leaders across Nottinghamshire will then select two of these Pioneers to receive high value / high impact business support packages worth up to £25,000 leveraging the resources of Oxford Innovation and their partners

Business Assist Programme

If you're a trading business you can receive expert, impartial business advice from advisers you can trust. Running your own business can be a lonely occupation. What could improve this?

How about the advice of an impartial, experienced business person? Someone to act as a sounding board, providing focussed and objective assistance. If you think you could benefit from a fresh perspective the NBV Business Assist programme could be just what you need.

Grant in Enterprise 

As an existing business you could access up to £2,500 of funding to help your business. NBV have directly supported local businesses to access over £2m in grant funding over the past 3 years and they are now offering businesses in Newark and Sherwood the Grant for Enterprise.

Eligible businesses can claim up to £2,500 for specific projects or investments. In order to be eligible you must:

  • Fit the criteria of Small and Medium Sized Business (SME)
  • Have commenced trading
  • Only trade business to business, not retail or business to consumer.
