Ready Set Grow......Your Own Business
Have you ever wanted to start your own business OR do you want your business to grow but you don't have the right resources? Then the Ready Set Grow......Your Own Business workshop is for you!
It is a pleasure to invite you to Newark and Sherwood District Council's Ready Set Grow......Your Own Business workshop to be held on Friday 31 March 2017.
This exclusive workshop hosted by Invest Newark and Sherwood and partners has been specifically designed to help you start and/or grow your business.
The day will cover getting started in business and will include the business plan, the financials, the market, marketing, legal, records and funding sources.
A team of experienced advisers will help you with impartial advice and guidance. The day will be a great opportunity to learn about what it takes to manage and grow your business successfully.
The workshop is free to attend and will start at 8.45am and is expected to conclude at 3.15pm.
During lunch there will be an opportunity to talk to advisors on a one-to-one basis.

This two day training course is aimed at delegates who would benefit from in depth knowledge on how to go self-employed and covers the skills that you'll need to start and manage a successful business. Completion of the two days also leads to a National accredited qualification.
Day one will cover what you need to know in order to set up a successful business:
- Assessing your ability to run a successful business
- Identifying a viable business
- Choosing your business structure
- Understand tax and National Insurance responsibilities
- Understand legislation affecting new start businesses
Day two will show you how to set up a simple money management system for your new business:
- Calculating your business pricing structure
- Understanding tax implications and responsibilities
- Claimable expenses
- Producing a cash-flow forecast
- Keeping financial records
- Considering ways of raising finance
- Identifying sources of external expertise

Starting in Business Programme
If you're looking to start up a new business and need assistance to help develop you business idea you can attend the Starting in Business Programme.
This four day course open to pre-start businesses provides everything you need to know to get your small business up and running. The course aimed at people who would benefit from in-depth knowledge on how to become self-employed or start their own small business. Over three weeks this course covers all of the skills that you'll need to start and manage a successful small business.

Growing Places Fund
Round four of the Growing Places Fund is now open offering loans between £250,000 and £2million to individual companies or organisations to finance capital (building and infrastructure) investment, resulting in business growth and job creation.
Funded projects must be located within D2N2 LEP’s area, covered by the administrative boundaries of Derby City, Derbyshire County, Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County local authorities.
Funding is limited and preference will be given to projects which deliver on the LEP’s strategic priorities and key areas of economic focus. More information on these is available on the D2N2 Website and in its Strategic Economic Plan.

There is no cut off date by which applications must be received, at this time, though applicants are encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible.

Nottinghamshire Economic Development Capital Fund
The Nottinghamshire Economic Development Capital Fund provides capital grants from £20,000 to a maximum of £250,000 to help businesses grow and employ more local people.
The grant can be used to support:
- new equipment purchases and machinery
- other capital investments for expansion purposes like land or property.
You must be able to show how the investment will result in job growth.
The maximum amount of grant available depends on state aid rules relating to the amount of public money which can be given to businesses – further information and guidance on how to apply is available on Nottinghamshire County Council's website.
The NEDCF fund re-opens for applications on Monday 30 January 2017 with a closing date of Monday 6 March 2017 at 4pm
Pioneer 10 is a new and free business awards and growth programme which is open to start-ups and ambitious SMEs across Nottinghamshire. It offers free business training workshops along with the opportunity to win a package of support up to the value of £25,000
Pioneer 10 offer a series of workshops that are free to attend for start-up and growth businesses across Nottinghamshire. The events will take place at the three Nottinghamshire Innovation Centres– Mansfield i-Centre, Newark Beacon and Worksop Turbine which are managed by Oxford Innovation
Delegates will be encouraged to use the knowledge gained from the workshops to submit their business idea for the Pioneer10 awards programme.
Ten start-up or growth businesses will be selected to receive one to one coaching and guidance from our experienced business experts. This stage will open up a world of new possibilities for business owners and significantly increase their chances of success.
The panel of judges, taken from business leaders across Nottinghamshire will then select two of these Pioneers to receive high value / high impact business support packages worth up to £25,000 leveraging the resources of Oxford Innovation and their partners

Grant in Enterprise
As an existing business you could access up to £2,500 of funding to help your business. NBV have directly supported local businesses to access over £2m in grant funding over the past 3 years and they are now offering businesses in Newark and Sherwood the Grant for Enterprise.
Eligible businesses can claim up to £2,500 for specific projects or investments. In order to be eligible you must:
- Fit the criteria of Small and Medium Sized Business (SME)
- Have commenced trading
- Only trade business to business, not retail or business to consumer.
