Supplier Awareness Workshop

Nottinghamshire County Council buys goods and services from a variety of sectors. To give you an idea of the range of potential opportunities for local businesses, categories and examples are listed below:

  • Social care services e.g. residential, elderly, day care, fostering and adoption, mental health
  • Construction and building equipment, contractors for highways, waste, landscaping, sport and recreation venues
  • Office, education and recreation e.g. office equipment, arts and craft supplies, toys and games, books, musical instruments

SMEs in the construction industry can also find out about how to register on the Firefly portal. Firefly provides the technology used by Scape, EMPA and BuildEastMidlands, and can open up opportunities for a business.

*The information in this section is taken from Firefly's research findings from 2012. The purpose of the research was to explore and compare opinions of contractors and suppliers in the supply chain selection process, and found some common supplier misconceptions.

We work closely with other local authorities such as Nottinghamshire County Council to ensure that you get the best support available in relation to services such as local highways and road improvements.


Brackenhurst Campus   is part of the Nottingham Trent University and is set in a 200 hectare beautiful country estate in Southwell.  The campus offers a specialist Animal unit, Veterinary Nursing Centre, Equestrian Centre and Glasshouse Complex.

Lincoln College has a campus based in Newark town centre.  We work with the college to support businesses with training and recruiting apprentices for their business as well as upskilling their current workforce through NVQs and accredited training courses.  

Tax and National Insurance

Support is available from the HMRC for businesses who require assistance and advice on issues such as tax, VAT and PAYE.
