Clinical and medical waste collections

Healthcare waste imageThe district council provides a health care waste service and is responsible for collecting household waste which includes healthcare waste produced in the home, which is then disposed of by Nottinghamshire County Council.

We collect both infectious health care waste and sharps boxes.

To request a medical waste collection, the patient or their representative should contact the district council's Customer Services team who will take the necessary details. e.g. name and address of patient and the contact details of their GP or district nurse etc. A form will be sent to the patient's medical professional via Nottinghamshire county council. If the medical professional assesses the waste to be infectious, the district council will supply bags and stickers and advise on the date of the collection. Health care waste which is not infectious should now be wrapped in a plastic bag and placed in the green residual bin. Sharps boxes will be collected as and when required.

If you have a problem storing this additional waste or wish to arrange a collection, please contact the council's customer services team.
