Shopwatch in Newark
The Newark Radiolink scheme not only acts as a deterrent against shoplifting and other criminal activity, but aims to boost community spirit amongst local businesses as well as increasing staff awareness of crime. In turn this helps to reassure both residents and visitors that Newark town centre is a safer place to shop and enjoy the nightlife.
The scheme allows businesses to communicate amongst themselves and monitor any potential shoplifters or anyone else acting suspiciously. Newark and Sherwood CCTV control room monitors the radios and is directly linked to the Police who are then able to respond to requests for assistance.
If you are interested in joining the scheme, we would pass your contact details onto Radcomm, who operate the Radiolink network. They will then contact you to discuss the hire or purchase of a radio. To give you an idea of costs the Kenwood Hand Portable Radio is a monthly rental of £19 +VAT or to purchase outright £249 +VAT.
Radcomm can be contacted direct on 0115 9522777.
Once you have agreed to a contract with Radcomm we will issue you with a membership agreement form to sign up to the Shopwatch scheme, which is monitored through our 24hr CCTV control room. This provides direct links to all those on the Shopwatch scheme, our CCTV operators and the Police.
Membership of the Shopwatch scheme through Newark and Sherwood District Council is £84.42 +VAT per annum, and you will be provided with guidance on use of the radio.
