Nottingham Credit Union Nottingham Credit Union

Newark and Sherwood District Council are working in partnership with Nottingham Credit Union to establish credit union services in the district.  Nottingham Credit Union is a co-operative not for profit organisation, that supports low income and financially vulnerable people and communities across Nottinghamshire.

By providing access to fair, affordable, ethical financial products and services, households have a choice and no longer need to enter into agreements with high cost credit providers when seeking a loan to help them with essential spending needs.

Further information can be found on the Nottingham Credit Union website.

Multi Agency Rented Solutions

Newark and Sherwood District Council are now working in partnership with Mansfield District Council to deliver a fresh way of meeting housing need across both districts.

The MARS scheme (Multi Agency Rented Solutions) has been operating in Mansfield since 2007 and has achieved great success and national recognition in that time.

The award winning scheme links landlords with good quality properties to rent with people in need of housing.  A consultation exercise with landlords has been carried out which identified that landlords would like the council to provide a tenant finding service, we are pleased to meet this need.

The Council will offer the tenant finder scheme (free of charge) by assessing all applicants before they are accepted onto the scheme and offering continuous support to ensure that the tenancy runs as smoothly as possible, delivering affordable housing in the private rented sector.

The scheme provides landlords with ongoing advice and guidance via a dedicated landlord liaison service.  Benefits of the scheme include access to rent in advance payments for low income households through Nottingham Credit Union and a bond guarantee up to the value of £750 to cover rent arrears or property damage through the councils Bond Guarantee Scheme.

The Housing Options Team at Newark and Sherwood are very excited to be working with Mansfield DC to deliver the MARS scheme into the area through a one year pilot initially.  This is a great opportunity for both private landlords and households in need of housing to ensure that affordable housing can be sought for a tenant and landlords will feel supported, ensuring that long term housing can be sustained for both.
