Newark & Sherwood District Council

 The Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 allows local authorities to set up Dog Control Orders within our administrative area. Newark and Sherwood District Council has made a number of orders which affect certain land to which the public are entitled to have access (with or without payment).

The following offences, punishable by a fine not exceeding level three on the standard scale, are created by the orders:

• Failing to immediately remove dog faeces from land
• Not putting, and keeping, a dog on a lead when directed to do so by an authorised officer
• Taking more than a specified number (6) of dogs onto land
• Not keeping a dog on a lead
• Permitting a dog to enter land from which dogs are excluded
