Approved food establishments
If you operate food premises handling products of animal origin such as meat, fish or dairy products for wholesale, then you may need to be approved by the council.
These premises must comply with specific requirements under European legislation. Products must display a Health Mark or be accompanied by a health certificate. Each authority in the country (and across the EU) has a unique code identifying the origin of the food. This will ensure that suspect foods are easily traced and, should it be necessary, are removed from the food chain.
Although the application process is free of charge, we must process and approve your application before you commence your business.
If your premise requires approval you must apply in writing and supply full details of the proposed business including information on such things as the types of food you intend to produce and in what quantities, pest control procedures, staff health monitoring arrangements, food sampling plans and staff training.

Apply online or by post
You can apply online using the Business Link online form on the right, or download and complete the application form and post it to Environmental Health, Newark and Sherwood District Council, Kelham Hall, Kelham, Newark, Notts. NG23 5QX.
If you don't have a Government Gateway account you will need to create one before you can proceed to the relevant form. If you already have a Government Gateway account you will be invited to log in prior to completing the application. This will ensure your details are pulled through to the relevant form so you can track your applications after submission.
When we have your application officers will arrange to visit your premises to validate the information provided and make a decision as to whether approval can be granted.
