The Sustainable Communities Theme Group brings together partners from the public, community and voluntary sectors to maintain and enhance the local natural and built environment (including housing issues) and bio-diversity by engaging with local communities.
Sherwood Forest Area Housing Strategy 2008 -2018
This is a joint housing strategy for the districts of Ashfield, Mansfield and Newark and Sherwood.
By working together it will mean that:
- Local residents and communities will get better value for money, for example they may receive a better service for less or the same amount of money
- People can access a wider choice of housing and housing services across local authority boundaries
- There is an increased chance that people on a low income can access training and employment that will help them afford a better home
- We can attract more funding to our local authorities and communities
- We will have a stronger voice about things which concern us all
The Government has also recognised the benefits of joint working and is encouraging us to explore this, particularly in relation to developing new housing. This is because housing has an impact on the local economy and the economy has an impact on housing - the economy is not limited to local authority boundaries.
Strategic Housing Market Assessment
Fordham Research was commissioned to undertake a Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA) for the Northern Sub-Region of the East Midlands.
The purpose of the assessment was to establish a strong evidence base to develop long term strategic views of housing need and demand to inform the Local Development Frameworks, Regional Spatial Strategy and Regional, Sub-regional and Local Housing Strategies. The assessment also helps the council as a planning authority to justify a certain level of affordable housing and to decide how housing need translates into different sizes and types of affordable housing.
The Strategic Housing Market Assessment (PDF File, 1,241kb) was published in September 2007.
