Arts in Newark and Sherwood

Newark and Sherwood has extremely strong and creative communities.

The District Council aims to support individuals and groups to develop sustainable and high quality arts activities and initiatives.

There are a variety of opportunities available to take part in arts and cultural activities and the way they are organised and developed vary by many different organisations.

11th Session performing art workshops

If you play an instrument, sing, dance or act....come along, if you don't....come along, whether you have just started or are totally brilliant....come along!

11th Session performing arts workshops offer young people FREE arts opportunities in music, dance and drama on Saturday mornings during school term times.

You can apply throughout the year, however workshop places are limited and waiting lists operate for workshops that are oversubscribed.

You can become an 11th Session member if:

  • you are aged between 7 - 19 years
  • you attend a Nottinghamshire County Council maintained school and/or you live in Nottinghamshire

Places are subject to regular attendance, commitment and good behaviour.

There are other funding opportunities available including:

Arts Awards

Through Arts Award at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, young people aged 11-25  can explore any of the art forms including performing arts, visual arts, literature, media and multimedia. The award builds confidence, helps young people to enjoy cultural activities, and prepares them for further education or employment.

This collaboration increases young people’s access to the Arts Council’s portfolio of arts organisations and strategic partners, while they work towards a respected Trinity College London qualification.

Activities delivered in arts centres, colleges and schools, community projects, libraries, galleries, local authorities, theatres, youth clubs and youth justice settings are welcomed.

Arts Council England

The Arts Council will fund arts activities that engage people in England, or that help artists and arts organisations carry out their work.

They are currently transforming the way the arts are funded in England. The national portfolio funding programme will provide funding for a national portfolio of organisations from April 2012. It replaces their regular funding programme, which will end on 31 March 2012.

Arts Council also support the arts through grants for the arts, an open-access programme for arts activities carried out over a set period.

Grants for the arts is an open-application funding programme, which funds arts activities that engage people in England, or that help artists and arts organisations carry out their work.

For further information regarding funding for the arts, visit the Arts Council website.
