This year’s Community Civic Carol Service hosted by Newark & Sherwood District Council’s Chairman, Councillor Mrs Rita Crowe, is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 3 December 2014 at 5.30 pm at Holy Trinity Church, Newark.
Councillor Mrs Crowe has launched a Christmas Card competition to raise funds for her chosen charities of Rainbows Hospice for children and young people and Beaumond House.
There will be 10 cards in a pack and we will be asking for a minimum donation of £2 per pack. The cards will be on sale at the Carol Service.
The competition is open for children in years 3 – 6 and all winners will receive a prize!
Children can choose from either a landscape or portrait design. Please ensure the children only colour/paint within the black lines to assist with the printing of the cards. Please ensure their name and year group is clearly written where shown.

The closing date for entries is Friday 31 October 2014 with judging taking place on 4 November and winners will be notified as soon as possible thereafter.
If you are not able to attend the Carol Concert the Christmas Cards can be purchased through the Civic Office at any time. A cheque can be made payable to “Newark & Sherwood District Council” or cash/card payment can be made at the reception at Kelham Hall.

October Half Term programmes from our leisure centres
Absolute Tri and Whole Health are offering young athlete's the opportunity to train with their experienced triathlon coaches during the October half-term in a safe, fun environment.
The camp will run for four days and will culminate in a race on the final day. Your athlete can attend for two or four days and the price of the race is included in the fee.
Cost: £75 per child for the two days, £140 for 4 days £18 race only (£12 club members)
Level: Beginner to experienced. Children MUST be able to swim at least 100m without stopping, preferably front crawl

Thursday 30 October 1pm -6pm
We are holding a Halloween fun day run in partnership with Newark Play Support group with activities including bouncy castles, trampolines, drumming, juggling and a lantern and mask making workshop.
There will be Halloween story telling in Rumbles Café at 5pm by the award winning Nicky Rafferty. The story telling will include a short lantern walk around the park

Are you brave enough to join one of our famous Sherwood Forest Halloween walks? Venture into the dark forest for a ghoulish experience but be prepared - who knows what you might meet! Bring a small torch to light your way, and dress to spook (don't forget to wrap up warm underneath though, and sorry but you'll have to leave dogs at home).
The Forest Table will be serving hot drinks and snacks during the evening.

Join us if you dare as the Southwell Theatre Group and community players put on a trio of spooky, thought-provoking plays. £5 per person.
25 October - 2 November 10.30am - 4.30pm at Rufford Abbey
Buy a trail leaflet (on sale from Rufford Tourist Information Centre), and use the clues to search for spooky creatures hidden in the park. Solve the clues to finish the trail and a sweet treat awaits you!
Friday 31 October and Saturday 1 November at White Post Farm
A family friendly Eerie Evening with owls, tractor and trailer ride, curtain maze, haunted barn, Poi dancers, bar, disco and street performers.
The event on 31 October is suitable for all ages. The event on 1 November is the Extreme Eerie Evening and is recommended for over 12s only. All under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
