If you are in need of a breath of fresh air and an energising walk in the countryside during half term take a stroll around one of our local country parks.
The Woodland Trust's Nature Detectives website offers lots of ideas for pulling on your wellies, rolling up your sleeves and getting outside. You can have fun with boredom-busting summer holiday activities, find out about nature's signs of summer, make the most of local woods, look for animal tracks, explore, smell and splash around your local park.

A summer of fun in Southwell parks
To celebrate the new community park in Southwell the Friends of Southwell Parks are hosting a series of stay and play workshops over the summer holidays.
Activities include arts and crafts, drumming, circus skills and bushcraft workshops.

Newark Book Festival 2017
Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 July
Various venues around Newark including Newark Town Hall and market place, Newark Castle, local cafes, Millgate Community Centre and the National Civil War Centre.
The festival includes street theatre, storytelling, local poets, book stalls, boat trips, family events, children's workshops, as well as an exciting and varied author and illustrator programme.
Newark Library will be joining in by launching its summer reading challenge.

OVO Energy Tour of Britain
Nottinghamshire is hosting Stage Four of the OVO Energy Tour of Britain 2017.
This is the UK’s premier road cycling race that takes place in September.
Wednesday 6 September will see 120 of the world’s top cyclists racing a 175-kilometre stage from Mansfield to Newark.
The tour of our district includes Blidworth, Farnsfield, Edingley, Halam, Southwell, Kirklington, Bilsthorpe, Edwinstowe, Budby, North and South Clifton, Girton, Collingham, Coddington and Newark.
Newark and Sherwood Festival of Cycling
We are so excited that the OVO Energy Tour of Britain is coming to the district on Wednesday 6 September. In support of the tour we are hosting a festival of cycling at the end of the summer which includes a packed programme of events across the district.
Kid's Crafts at Sherwood Forest Arts and Craft Centre, Edwinstowe
Join in some Wednesday fun at Sherwood Forest Arts and Crafts Centre during the school holidays. There is a small charge for each activity and not all activities will be available every session. Combine a trip with a walk around Sherwood Forest. Cafe available.
