Gallery exhibitions

Newark Millgate Museum is the home to three of our four galleries. The ABC Gallery is on the ground floor, The Mezzanine Gallery is on the first floor and Stage 2 Gallery (and Meeting Room) is on the second floor. A few minutes walk away The Gilstrap Centre houses the Gilstrap Gallery also on the ground floor.

We showcase a programme of exciting and varied temporary exhibitions where local artists, textile groups and photographers can display and sell their work. Occasionally we play host to international exhibitors, artists and new designers. Periodically we display objects or art from the Museum’s Resource Centre Collection.

Due to space restrictions the exhibition will be rotated with different prints possibly around halfway through the exhibition period. Millgate Museum Sunday 15 July 10.30am-4pm

Celebrating the Festival of British Archaeology- Charlotte Burrill, Finds Liaison Officer for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire will be coming to Millgate Museum.

This is a drop-in event for finders of archaeological objects, especially metal detector users. Please bring in any items you have found, which you believe may be 100 old+, for identification and possible recording by the Finds Liaison Officer.

The Finds Liaison Officer will also be bringing along a handling collection of some typical finds so even if you haven't found anything but want to find out more about the work of the Portable Antiquities Scheme please come along.

Please note that it is helpful if hard-fired pottery and stone finds are washed before being brought in but that caution should be exercised in cleaning any metal or unfired (unhardened) pottery as this can damage the artefacts. Please see the guidance notes and advice at www.finds.org.uk
