Ovo Energy Tour of Britain coming to Newark and Sherwood
Residents in Newark and Sherwood are being asked for their help, support and cooperation in preparation for the OVO Energy Tour of Britain cycle race which comes to Nottinghamshire on Wednesday, September 6.
Stage 4 of the race starts in Mansfield that day before making its way through 175kms of the county before arriving in Newark for a sprint finish at Sconce and Devon Park at around 3.30pm.
The race will require some road closures and no on-street parking, particularly in the final kilometre which will have fixed ‘spectator safety’ barriers in place starting on Lombard Street and concluding around Devon Bridge on Farndon Road. Elsewhere in the district there will be rolling road closures managed by the police but disruption to traffic will be kept at a minimum.
Newark and Sherwood District Council, which is one of the host authorities for Stage 4 of the race, would be grateful for the cooperation of residents so that the event can be safe and successful for all concerned.
In order to prepare the finish straight, the council would request that all motorists comply with the following to enable street sweeping and bin collections and for the conclusion of the race.Roads affected directly on September 6 include (timings approximate):
Closed with no on-street parking (5am- 8pm): Portland Street, Victoria Street, Boundary Road (from Albert Street to Victoria Street), Southfield Terrace.
Closed with no on-street parking at times stated: Lombard Street (2-4.30pm), Hawton Road (11am-5pm), Prince’s Street (3-5pm), Albert Street (3-5pm), Farndon Road (2-4.30pm).
Roads also affected (parking permitted with restricted access and egress): Pelham Street, Edward Avenue, Parliament Street, Queen Street, King Street, Clinton Street, Crown Street, Britannia Court and Spring Gardens.
Millgate will also be closed between 2-4.30pm although normal parking arrangements will remain in place.
The race will also involve some rolling road closures which will affect traffic movement for a short while on Sleaford Road, Newark and surrounding roads. Furthermore, in the interests of safety there will be no on-street parking permitted on race day, therefore we are asking for residents’ support and co-operation to remove vehicles from the route as requested.
Further information will be available nearer the day and the council will be constantly updating its website. In the meantime if you have any queries or questions please contact Customer Services on 01636 650000, our website www.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk or follow us on Facebook and/or Twitter.
