Planning decisions

An application can be either approved, normally with conditions or refused with a justified planning reason.

The council has decided that in the interests of greater efficiency a significant number of applications can be decided by officers of the council using a Scheme of Delegation (PDF File, 112kb).

In these cases a case planning officer will prepare a report for an authorised officer who will make a decision to approve or refuse the application, and impose any conditions deemed appropriate. The decision notice will then normally be dispatched to the applicant (or agent) on the same day or the following day.  A copy is also available on our website - http://www.nsdc.info/eplanning/

Although most applications are decided by the Business Manager in accordance with the approved scheme of delegation, applications for major development, or when objections are received, together with certain other categories of development, are determined by the Planning Committee.
