Welcome to the District of Newark and Sherwood famed worldwide for its connections with Robin Hood and Sherwood Forest. The District offers a wealth of places to see, an excellent range of accommodation and a large number of award winning eating places.

In January each year, we publish the To Stay To See & Do and To Eat  guides. The guides give details of accommodation, attractions and eating establishments within the District.

What to See and Do

The District of Newark and Sherwood has a wealth of fascinating places to visit.

Take, for the example the historic market town of Newark on Trent with its imposing 12th Century Castle, civil war connections and lovely cobbled marketplace.

Travel to the charming market town of Southwell, famous for its Bramley Apple and magnificent Norman Minster. The Workhouse is also well worth a visit.

However, the District's most famous inhabitant was, of course, Robin Hood.  His home the important Sherwood Forest. There are many reminders of his presence throughout the District.

You will be able to discover a wealth of villages and hamlets with special traditions including maypole dancing and the medieval system of Open Field Farming. Information about a selection of our attractions can be found by visiting the villages and traditions section of the website.

Where to Stay 

Whether you are staying for a few days or planning a longer visit our District offers a great choice of places to stay from hotels and guest houses to camping and caravaning sites. The District also boasts a four star Youth Hostel. For a full list of places to stay visit our Where to Stay pages.

Whatever your reason for visiting the District of Newark and Sherwood you will find a wide range of accommodation to suit everyone, whatever your budget.

Whether you are looking for hotel accommodation or warm and friendly guest accommodation we can suggest an excellent range throughout the District.

If self-catering is more to your liking then we have a range of properties for all budgets.  Alternatively you may want to experience what we have to offer at a local holiday centre.

For those of you with your own accommodation we can boast an excellent choice of camping and caravan sites.

So whatever you prefer, Newark and Sherwood has an excellent choice of accommodation situated in quite villages and busy towns making it an ideal place to visit.

Tourism Newsletter 

The latest edition of the Tourism Newsletter (pdf) , packed full of interesting initiatives and news for tourism operators is now available. In the latest edition, we interview Alison, Launays Restaurant in Edwinstowe.
