Swimming is a great life skill and we want to encourage everyone to learn to swim - and to swim regularly for fun with the family or for fitness.

That's why we've launched our new SwimSkool, with programmes that cover all swimming needs from babies through to preparation for club competition swimming.

Working in partnership with the Swimming Teachers Association, our lesson programmes follow a nationally recognised Quality standard, with awards available at each stage to recognise progress.

Our lessons take place Monday - Friday evenings and on a Saturday morning. Courses run for 13 weeks and we offer classes for all abilities.

STA Award Scheme
STA Awards Chart

Our swimming lessons follow the STA swim scheme.

From age 6 months your child can learn to swim and work towards the Starfish series of awards there are 6 steps to this award. Babies will gain water confidence whilst also having fun.

Once they have gained award 6 it is now time to progress to the Stanley series. This scheme is designed for children aged 2 years upwards. There are 7 steps to this scheme.

Older children may start on Octopus Badges. There are 3 steps to this scheme.

Once all of these steps have been achieved it is now time to move on to Goldfish. By the end of Goldfish 3 children should be able to swim 15 metres, have a good knowledge of water safety and be able to swim 3 recognised strokes.

The next step is Angelfish. During this scheme children are introduced to Butterfly, correct touch finishes and swimming in clothing.

The Shark scheme which follows on from Angelfish is taught in our swim clubs. This scheme introduces performing rescues, correct starts and turns and the individual medley.

Swim Club takes place on a Monday 7pm-8pm or Wednesday 5pm-6pm and is open to anyone who can swim 50 metres or over.
