There is dual responsibility for the enforcement of food legislation within the UK. Within Nottinghamshire the Enviornmental Health section of the district council ensures that food business prepare and sell food hygienically, while the Trading Standards Section at Nottinghamshire County Council are responsible for permitted ingredients, food labelling and quality.

Both Councils  work closely together to ensure that all food premises comply with the law.
