TRIBUTE TO COUNCILLOR LEN SPRIGG
Published:Thursday 18 September 2008
It is with great sadness and regret that Newark and Sherwood District Council must announce the death of Councillor Len Sprigg who died suddenly at his home on Wednesday, September 18 aged 80.
Cllr Sprigg, an Independent councillor for the Clipstone ward, was first elected to the council in May 1999 and was successfully re-elected in May 2003 and May 2007.
Cllr Sprigg was vice-chairman of the council in 2003/04, and was leader of the Independent group from 2003 to 2007, and became deputy leader of the Independent group last year.
The flag at Kelham Hall is currently being flown at half-mast, and a minute’s silence will be held before the next full council meeting on September 23 as a mark of respect to Cllr Sprigg.
Councillor Gill Dawn, the leader of the Independent group at Newark and Sherwood District Council, paid tribute to Cllr Sprigg whom she described as a dedicated councillor who cared tremendously for his community.
Cllr Dawn said: “Len worked tremendously hard for the people of Clipstone.
“He was especially interested in planning matters, and had attended site visits and then planning committee only on Tuesday, a day before he passed away.
“Len was just beginning to get back into the swing of things after recovering from a heart bypass earlier this year, so to lose him so suddenly is particularly sad.
“Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family at this difficult time.” |
