Our energy policy hierarchy
1. Reduce the need for energy, good energy housekeeping to cut usage
2. Use energy more efficiently - invest in energy efficiency so as to save energy
3. Increase the take-up of green renewable energy and lower CO2 emission fuels
4. Any continued use of fossil fuels to be clean and efficient for heating and where possible for ‘heat + electricity’ co-generation
Energy is central to all 3 strands of sustainable development
o Economic - literally fuelling the economy and providing jobs, creating new low carbon markets
o Social - contributing to quality of life and maintaining good health, the tackling of fuel poverty
o Environmental - tackling climate change, pollution and ecological impacts
