The guides give details of accommodation, attractions and eating establishments within the District. What to See and Do The District of Newark and Sherwood has a wealth of fascinating places to visit. Take, for the example the historic market town of Newark on Trent with its imposing 12th Century Castle, civil war connections and lovely cobbled marketplace. Travel to the charming market town of Southwell, famous for its Bramley Apple and magnificent Norman Minster. The Workhouse is also well worth a visit. However, the District's most famous inhabitant was, of course, Robin Hood. His home the important Sherwood Forest. There are many reminders of his presence throughout the District. You will be able to discover a wealth of villages and hamlets with special traditions including maypole dancing and the medieval system of Open Field Farming.
