Sport funding

Funding available

Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Community, Sports and Arts Development Unit has a number of specific grant funds that individuals and organisations can apply to, to support the development of arts, culture and sport, recreation and leisure activity within the District.

It is important to remember that financial support is limited and grants will be awarded at the discretion of the Panel.

The district council offers three funding streams:

  • Coach and Official Development
  • Special projects and events
  • Talented individuals

Each application will be assessed against the programme criteria and grants of up to £2,000 can be awarded for special projects and events and up to £200 for coach education and development and support to talented individuals.

Coach and Official Development

If you are unsure if your club has achieved or are working towards Clubmark/club accreditation you can view the full list on this website: www.clubmark.org.uk. If you are attached to a sports club/community group it must be registered on the club finder section of the Sport Nottinghamshire website

All coaches must be registered on the Nottinghamshire Coaching Database through Nottinghamshire County Council.  There are a number of benefits for being on the database including information on coaching employment, courses, useful resources and assistance with developing a coaching CV.  To sign up to the database please contact Pete Forster on 0115 9774403 or email pete.forster@nottscc.gov.uk

Applicants can apply for up to 50% towards the course fee and individuals are only eligible for a maximum of £200 in a year.

All application forms must be received by Sports Development before you attend any course. Funding will not be awarded to anyone that has already attended the coaching/officiating course.

You can check through the Sport England website whether your sport has a recognised National Governing Body (e.g. The FA, The ECB, England Hockey etc.)

Special projects and events

Please give details of the lead contact name from your organisation for the application. Your organisation must be based within Newark and Sherwood district and be primarily for Newark and Sherwood residents.

Tell us what the project will actually deliver and if it's an art or sport activity programme or a single event? What will be achieved by delivering the project and why does your club/organisation want to do it?

All projects must be completed and funding spent within 12 months of the start date. Grants will not be awarded if the project has started or already taken place. Please demonstrate how you know this project is needed in the area.  The Panel places a higher priority on applications that demonstrate sustainability and continuation beyond the end of the project.  Please give details of how the activities will be financed in future without grant support.
