Newark and Sherwood District Council is offering a work experience opportunity for graduates. If you are a graduate wanting to broaden your experience and enhance your CV, we’d love to hear from you. You need to be confident and have good writing skills. This is an unpaid position but we can pay you a small expense allowance of £20 per day.

We would need you to start as soon as possible to work with us over the next four weeks. You will work from Kelham Hall or our Markets Office in Newark but you will also be spending some time meeting people in Ollerton, Southwell and Newark.

Volunteer Friends Co-ordinator needed!

Voluntary Position: Friends Co-Ordinator

Are you passionate about local theatre? The Friends of the Palace membership scheme and Palace Pals youth membership scheme are a vital part of the Palace Theatre’s operation.

The theatre is looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic person to deliver the scheme’s objectives, from increasing membership to organising exclusive events, plus you’ll have the opportunity to see some of our shows while raising the Friends’ profile.

If you have time to spare both in the evenings and once or twice a month during office hours and enjoy all aspects of the arts then this could be the place for you!

Purpose of the role

The Friends Co-Ordinator acts as the face of the Friends of the Palace. They are responsible for the drive to recruit new members, as well as maintaining excellent communication with existing Friends. They represent the Friends within the team at the Palace, alongside whom they work to create and exploit fundraising opportunities. They act as the host for Friends events that take place at the theatre each year and may also be required to represent the Palace at events away from the theatre from time to time.

Person specification

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:

  • An interest in theatre
  • A knowledge of the Palace Theatre, the town and its surrounding areas, or a willingness to develop such a knowledge
  • An outgoing, approachable demeanour and a willingness and enthusiasm to interact with people of all ages and backgrounds
  • A flexible schedule, allowing them to attend an average of 3 performances each month as well as occasional meetings with theatre management and daytime attendance to fulfil other responsibilities of the role
  • A basic understanding of accounts, sufficient to comprehend an annual profit and loss sheet for the Friends
  • An ability to produce draft copies of 3 newsletters per year

In return, the Friends Co-Ordinator can expect:

  • A full induction into the role, with a trial period for both sides
  • Opportunities for regular meetings with the Front of House Manager, Marketing Department and / or Business Manager
  • A support network from the theatre’s team of staff and volunteers to assist in delivering new member or fundraising initiatives, as devised in conjunction with the management team
  • Access to the theatre’s office space and ICT equipment as appropriate
