Community Governance Review- Newark Town Council Boundaries 2017
Views are being sought in a review of the boundaries of Newark Town Council in light of housing developments in the town.
Newark and Sherwood District Council would like to hear the views of residents and any interested parties after Newark Town Council requested that a Community Governance Review be undertaken of Newark and the surrounding areas in light of the planning permission and site layout in respect of the development on land to the south of Newark.
In addition the review will consider the boundary between Newark Town Council and Balderton Parish Council around the proposed new development site at Highfields School and the boundary with Winthorpe and Langford Parish Council.
On 12 December 2017 Newark and Sherwood District Council agreed the terms of reference, an indicative timetable and process for the Community Governance Review. This review process will determine any changes to the boundaries of Newark Town Council and Balderton and Winthorpe & Langford Parish Councils in view of the developments. The Council has established a cross party working group to consider representations received during the review, and will make recommendations directly to the full Council.
The Review will specifically consider changes to parish boundaries arising from:-
(a) the implication of the planning permission and site layout for the new housing development on land south of Newark;
(b) the implication of the proposed new housing development known as the Highfields School site; and
(c) the boundary between Newark and Winthorpe and Langford parishes.
The Review will also need to consider the electoral arrangements including the number of Councillors to be elected and any warding arrangements of all the affected parishes.
The first stage of the consultation, inviting initial submissions, opened on Monday 18 December 2017 and closed on the 9 February 2018. The Draft Proposals will be published in due course, following approval by the Council.
The Terms of Reference, including maps of the review area, timetable and list of consultees are available below.
