Graduate work experience opportunity
Newark and Sherwood District Council is offering a work experience opportunity for a graduate over the coming 4 weeks. We’re working with local partners to respond to the Portas review and develop a bid to help our town centres. If you are a graduate wanting to broaden your experience and enhance your CV, we’d love to hear from you. You need to be confident and have good writing skills.
We would need you to start as soon as possible to work with us over the next four weeks. This is an unpaid position but we can pay you a small expense allowance of £20 per day. You will work from Kelham Hall or our Markets Office in Newark but you will also be spending some time meeting people in Ollerton, Southwell and Newark.
Email your CV and contact details to corporate@nsdc.info and tell us in a few sentences why you want to take up this opportunity.
Work experience at the council
We provide around 50 student work experience placements each year and all placements are UNPAID.
Requests are from students from local schools but priority is given to students who either live or attend school in the Newark and Sherwood district. Placements have also been provided to university students, German students through the Twinning Association, and through the Ready4Work team at Nottinghamshire County Council.
In the past, placements have been offered at the Grove, Dukeries, Blidworth and Southwell Leisure Centres, sports development, planning, accountancy, ICT, community safety, HR, legal, council tax, corporate property and Millgate Museum.
We aim to make the placement as interesting and worthwhile as possible and each participating department is expected to devise a structured work programme.
All work experience students have to satisfactorily complete a disclosure of convictions form before starting a placement. (This is a requirement for anyone who works for the authority whether permanent, temporary or voluntary).
Risk assessments are carried out for students aged 17 and under by the authority.
Education Business Futures (formerly NEBA) works with all placements within Nottinghamshire, providing health and safety checks on behalf of Nottinghamshire schools. It also maintains a database that can be accessed by students, schools and employers to give students some idea of whether they can apply for a placement.
How to apply:
- Email a brief letter and CV, if you have one.
- Please tell us the subjects you are studying at school, your interests and hobbies
- Tell us the area of the council you would like to work in, and why
- Please also let us know the dates of the placement you require
We will then make enquiries for you and send a letter of confirmation if you are successful.
