We have five strategic priorities:
Supporting priorities:
Given the ambitions of our local community and their local councillors, the wide range of services we provide, the assets that we are responsible for and the legislation we must comply with, the council has a number of policies and plans that describe:
We review our corporate plan after a district election. Our last election was on 5 May 2011 and we will be developing our new corporate plan over the coming months.
Our starting point is where the Cabinet and Corporate Management Team meet to review progress, examine the challenges ahead and establish priorities for the coming years.
The choice of priorities is based on a range of factors including national demands, issues that local people tell us are important, objective data (such as the census, deprivation indicators and resident survey results), council performance and resource availability and other longer term plans such as the district and county sustainable community strategies and the Local Development Framework. By taking a broad view of the council and its environment, efforts and resources can be focused on the things that will make most difference to our community.
This four year plan sets out what we are trying to achieve, how we are going to do it and when the changes will be delivered. The main feature of our planning model is to keep it simple, focus on the things that matter and make it easy to monitor. This enables us to understand the key issues and take action if things start to go off track.
It also makes it easier for our community and councillors to judge how we are progressing.
The corporate plan is supported by a number of other key documents such as:
