Becoming a Councillor

Welcome to Newark and Sherwood’s microsite on becoming a Councillor.

I hope that you’ll find plenty of useful information that encourages you to come forward and stand in the 2019 local elections.

Newark and Sherwood is a great place to live, work and visit but there’s plenty more we can do to make it even better. Local councillors have a vital role to play in providing leadership to the Council and the local community and many make a significant difference to improving peoples’ lives.

You will be joining an organisation that is ambitious for the future whilst also being respectful of the rich heritage of the place that we serve. Councillors and officers work extremely well together and you will find that there are plenty of opportunities to use your skills and experience as well as develop new ones.

You may be passionate about a specific neighbourhood, concerned about a particular issue or simply wanting to make a difference to the quality of life across Newark and Sherwood.

Whatever it is that interests you, I hope that you take the next steps to becoming a Councillor.

Best wishes and good luck!
