Vaccination Centre in Newark
Newark and Sherwood District Council has been working with colleagues across the local health and care system to identify a suitable location for a COVID-19 vaccination centre in Newark and Sherwood.
The site has now been confirmed as the Joe Hallam Suite at Newark Showground. There will be other locations across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire which will also be used for vaccinations.
We have opened our booking lines for all those over 65 to get their Covid-19 vaccine. If you have received your letter asking you to book please use the Swiftqueue website here
or call 0115 883 4640.
What happens next?
In the coming days, people over the age of 80 years old and frontline health and care workers will begin to be invited to have a vaccine at the site by appointment only.
This is in line with the guidance set out by the Joint Committee for Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) which has identified over 80s and frontline health and care workers as priority for vaccination.
After this, people will be invited for vaccination in priority order, based on the JCVI guidance. The NHS will let you know when it is your turn to have the vaccine. Please do not contact the NHS or Newark and Sherwood District Council to ask for a vaccine before then.
Receiving a letter inviting you for a COVID-19 vaccine
If you receive a letter inviting you for a COVID-19 vaccine, please make sure you book your appointment as quickly as possible.
You will be required to have two jabs. If you are feeling unwell then please do not attend for a vaccination and make an alternative appointment when you have fully recovered. You can find out more about the vaccine on the NHS website.
Accessing the vaccination centre
Directions to the Newark Showground can be found on the Newark Showground website and the postcode is NG24 2NY.
If you are travelling by car please use the main entrance (green gate) on Drove Lane and proceed to the car park. There will be signage and staff on site to help point you in the right direction.
From Monday 18 January a shuttle bus service will be operating from Newark Bus Station to the Newark Showground. This is being coordinated by Nottinghamshire County Council to support residents travelling to their vaccine appointment. The service is being operated by Marshalls of Sutton on Trent and runs every 15 minutes. For the full timetable, visit Newark Showground Bus Timetable.
Where patients are invited to attend for a vaccination but are unable to make their own way or secure transport independently, they should use the local vaccination appointment booking service by calling the number on their invitation. The local booking service will screen patients for transport needs, and where appropriate will refer to the transport hub.
The transport hub is managed by Bassetlaw Action Centre – a voluntary sector transport organiser commissioned by Notts Healthcare as part of the vaccination programme. Patients meeting transport criteria will be referred to the transport hub who will arrange transport.

What happens after the vaccination?
After vaccination, it’s really important you continue to follow the guidelines in place to protect your family and friends. This means continuing to practice social distancing, wearing a face covering and washing your hands frequently.
