An active member of the community, I have helped introduce campaigns such as the ‘Report It’ campaign and ‘Safer Cleaner Greener’ and have been involved in the new Community Café due to reopen on Coronation Street playing fields.

I am passionate about the local environment and the services on offer to our residents, one particular area of passion is supporting the elderly, specifically those with dementia and Alzheimer’s and regularly spend time visiting with residents of the care home in Balderton

Originally from Nottingham, Keith Girling moved to Newark in 1988 whilst still serving in the Grenadier Guards. He saw service in Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Germany, Belize, Canada and the Gulf War (Desert Storm). As a Grenadier he also took part in many ceremonial duties including Trooping the Colour and mounting the guard at Buckingham Palace, St James’s Palace, Windsor Castle and the Tower of London.

Keith has a wide variety of qualifications from a Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Warfare Instructor to a Driving Examiner. Since leaving the Grenadier Guards he has continued with his personal development gaining a diploma in Economic Development and Level 2 in Wines and Spirits and is a great believer in the benefits of training.

Now retired, he is a District and County Councillor with special responsibilities for Nottinghamshire County Council’s Health Scrutiny. Keith is a duty Leader, Vice Chairman of Policy and Finance and Chairman of the Economic Development Committee at NSDC. Keith also Chairs the Active 4 Today Board.

Keith lives in Newark and in his spare time he is the Chairman of the Newark Patriotic Fund, a local charity set up to look after our injured veterans and their families, a trustee on BNA Charity which is a giving charity, walks his dogs Eric and Lucy, plays golf and cycles.

Johanne is an experienced communications and marketing professional of over 15 years, working predominantly within housing and regeneration industry, across both the public and private sector.

With a degree in Public Relations with Law, Johanne has overseen communications on some of the Midlands’ largest housing and regeneration projects when working for the government’s Homes England agency, and prior to that led the communications and engagement team for the government’s New Deal for Communities programme in North East Coventry, where she also set up the regions first communications social enterprise.

Now with strategic land developer Urban&Civic, Joh leads the engagement of local business partners and communities in the development of Newark’s urban extension, Middlebeck, as well as overseeing the communications, communities and partnerships function across several of the business’s portfolio of large-scale sites.

Johanne is also a Director on two Multi Academy Trusts linked to schools on Urban&Civic sites.
