Newark and Sherwood - Proud to host the Ovo Energy Tour of Britain
We are privileged to have hosted a large section of the Stage Four of the OVO Energy Tour of Britain on Wednesday this week.
The involvement of so many communities across the district was a delight from the live ‘sheep art’ of Coddington, where a flock ‘assembled’ in the shape of a cycle, to the bikes of Bilsthorpe and Farnsfield, the boats of Girton, the land art of Edingley and Southwell’s Bramley Apple.
Newark, where the race concluded in front of huge crowds, was a great place to finish. Thousands of the district’s residents were able to have a share in this celebration of cycling while showing the district to the world at its very best.
We’d like to thank them all as well as the business community for helping to create such a marvellous spectacle that was beamed out on television to an global audience.
Thank you also to the many volunteers who worked in various capacities on the route throughout the district and at the finish at Sconce and Devon Park.
We appreciate too the cooperation and support of motorists who may have been affected by road closures and parking restrictions and we’re delighted that everyone entered into the celebratory spirit.
All-in-all, it was a proud and special day for Newark and Sherwood and Nottinghamshire and one that we would love to repeat in future.
