Secretary of State rejects Farnsfield housing appeal
Newark and Sherwood District Council welcomes the Secretary of State for the Housing, Communities and Local Government’s decision to uphold refusing planning permission for up to 60 new homes off Mansfield Road, Farnsfield.
The council’s position, which was fully endorsed by the Planning Inspector, makes clear that it will resist inappropriate development within the district at the highest level of decision-making.
Matt Lamb, council Business Manager for Growth Development, said: “The proposed development would have been outside defined settlements and would have caused environmental harm. To have allowed it would have been contrary to the established Neighbourhood Plan which was drawn up by the local community, in close consultation with the district council, after much time and effort.
“We also welcome the Secretary of State’s view that the council has planned for and is now delivering enough homes for the future without needing to resort to sites that are beyond those we have identified as acceptable in principle.”
