Technical information about this website’s accessibility
This website is not compliant with the Public Sector (Website and Mobile Application) Accessibility Regulations.
As part of our commitment to accessibility, we are undergoing a full redevelopment of the website. Our level of compliance will be re-assessed once the new site goes live. We have made an effort to fix as many issues as we can, however, further fixes to our website have been identified as a disproportionate burden.
Accessibility is the priority for Newark and Sherwood District Council.
We are constantly working to make sure our website provides the best user experience for those that have access needs. But we understand our website is in need of an update to be able to fulfil these needs.
We have identified all fixes as a disproportionate burden. Whilst some of our elements and features are not accessible in line with the Accessibility Regulations, our reasons for the justification are below.
Work is ongoing to build a brand-new external website for Newark and Sherwood District Council, which is due to launch in Winter 2020, and will be tested, and compliant with the accessibility regulations.
Solutions for accessible features such as systems to allow us to create accessible forms are being implemented as part of the new website build due to go-live in the coming months. At this stage, it would be a duplication of resources to address any accessibility issue with the website at this stage when the new project is so close to completion.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
The Public Sector Body Accessibility Regulations 2018 do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.
We are working towards ensuring essential PDFs and documents are accessible and that new PDFs or Word documents meet accessibility standards. Our level of compliance will be re-assessed once the new site goes live and a roadmap to compliance will be published. Please contact us if you require a PDF or document to be made accessible.
Live video streams do not have captions. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.2.4 (captions, live).
We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
