Tenant engagement

The Tenant Influence and Assurance Board (TIAB) is a group of tenants who work closely with the council to make sure tenant voices genuinely shape housing services.

Members review policies, give feedback on planned changes, and make recommendations to improve the way we deliver services. Their role is to make sure real tenant experiences guide what we do and how we do it.

The TIAB is responsible for making sure the council is meeting its legal duties, keeping homes safe, and delivering good‑quality services. It brings together councillors, senior officers, and tenant representatives to look at performance, safety, complaints, and risks across all housing services.

The board checks that we are doing what we say we will do, holding the service to account, and making sure tenants are treated fairly and consistently.

At the heart of the Board are our tenant members. They bring valuable experience, local knowledge and a genuine commitment to improving services for everyone who lives in and our homes. By sharing experiences and listening to feedback from other tenants, they help ensure that decisions are informed by the people who use our services every day.

Meet Your Tenant Board Members

Helen Douthwaite

Helen is the Chair of the Tenant Influence and Assurance Board. She has been making a difference for tenants for several years, working with council officers. She is involved in local communities and also runs the Southwell Food Project and Hygiene Bank.

Every tenant voice matters. Getting involved has helped me build confidence, learn new skills and influence positive change in housing services.

Elizabeth Bennett

Elizabeth is newly appointed as a Board member, and lives in one of our flats where she keeps an eye on the communal areas.

I got involved to better understand Council decisions and help tenants shape better services. Your voice matters - make yourself heard.

Lynette Culleton

Lynette moved into her home in November 2025 and lives in Clipstone. Although she is a relatively new tenant, she has quickly become interested in how the Council listens to tenants and how their experiences can help shape the services they receive.

I got involved because I believe tenant influence should be more than having a voice. It should be having a voice that is listened to, considered and capable of making a difference.

Richard Tyminski

Richard is a new Board member and has been a tenant in Southwell for four and a half years. He supports his local community, where tenants can sometimes feel disconnected and vulnerable, although this is changing following recent legislation.

 I got involved to focus on areas that need improvement where tenant's voices are not being heard.

Tom Murphy

Tom is a newly appointed Board member and has lived in Ollerton as a tenant for 10 years. Tom undertakes a range of responsibilities, including serving as a Grounds Maintenance Champion and conducting Empty Homes inspections to support service delivery and property standards. 

I got involved because I saw the need for tenants to be heard in the decisions that govern our homes and housing. All of this has been really rewarding for me personally and can be for you.
