The Council is hosting a business support surgery at Ollerton Advice Centre on Thursday 26 November, in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council and businesses in the area can sign up.

Hour-long appointments are available with experienced business advisor Dawn Fear, giving local businesses the opportunity to discuss their ambitions, identify areas for development and receive tailored advice on how to set and achieve their goals.

Dawn Fear has a wealth of knowledge to share with local businesses. Previous attendees have praised the support, with one saying: “Dawn has been an integral part of my business. I am incredibly grateful for her help, support, honesty, and observations during the sessions.”

Councillor Claire Penny, Portfolio Holder for Sustainable Economic Development at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said:

This is a fantastic initiative, and I encourage any businesses in Newark and Sherwood to take advantage of this. It’s absolutely free and there really is nothing to lose and lots to gain!

These free one-to-one sessions are a valuable opportunity for business owners to step back, talk through their plans with an expert and receive practical advice that can help them grow with confidence.

Whether you’re self-employed or employ large teams, this surgery offers focused support that could make a real difference.

Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The business support surgery will take place at Ollerton Advice Centre, Sycamore Road, Ollerton, NG22 9PS, on Thursday 26 November 2026. Six hour-long appointments are available between 9.30am and 4.15pm.

The support is open to businesses based in Newark and Sherwood that have been trading for three years or more.

To book a place, or for more information, please contact Will Parkinson by emailing will.parkinson@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk.

Businesses that would like to access this support but cannot attend the November session can request an ad-hoc meeting. Future business support surgeries are also being arranged on a quarterly basis.
