Core Strategy
A key part of the Local Development Framework (LDF) is the Adopted Core Strategy (March 2011) (PDF File, 3,021kb) . This document sets out the big issues that Newark & Sherwood District Council and our public and private sector partners need to address over the next twenty years in our District. It sets a vision and objectives and a number of policies to help deliver the development and change identified.
The production of the Core Strategy went through several stages including an independent examination and is based on a wide ranging evidence base, further detail on this process is available on the 'making of the core strategy' webpage. The document was adopted by the District Council on the 29th March 2011 and so now forms part of the Development Plan for the District and will be used in decision making on new development and the use of land.
It is important to note that the Core Strategy partly replaces and in some cases entirely replaces content within the Newark & Sherwood Local Plan (1999) and there have also been a number of amendments to the Newark & Sherwood Proposals Map. It is therefore necessary to read the Core Strategy DPD, the Proposals Map and the Newark & Sherwood Local Plan in conjunction with one another.
Work is currently underway on the Allocations & Development Management Development Plan Document which will set out site allocations, designations and more detailed policies for determining planning applications. Once this document has been adopted it will sit alongside the Core Strategy and fully replace the Local Plan
