Moving out of Newark and Sherwood
If you're leaving the local area, there are a number of things you may need to do.
Tell us you're leaving so we can close your Council Tax account
You will need your Council Tax billing number, which begins with ‘310’, to complete the form. If you do not know your billing number, contact customer services:

Register for Council Tax at your new address
Contact the local council in your new district to register for Council Tax. GOV.UK has a postcode search that allows you to:
- check your new Council Tax band
- find out who your new local authority is
Redirect your post
Redirect your post using the Post Office redirection service and change your address every time you receive a letter.
Remember to cancel any memberships or subscriptions associated with your current address, such as gym memberships, before you move.

Contact us if you currently receive Council Tax Support and/or Housing Benefit and are moving outside the district.

Register to vote
When you move home, you need to register to vote at the new address if you want to vote in UK elections, including local elections.
