Moving within Newark and Sherwood
If you're moving home within the local area, there are a number of things you may need to do.
Register for Council Tax
It's important to register for Council Tax at your new address.
You will need your Council Tax billing number, which begins with ‘310’, to complete the form.
Re-apply for a Council Tax discount or exemption
If you receive Council Tax Support and/or Housing Benefit and are moving to a new address, you will need to submit a new claim.
Apply for a Council Tax discount or an exemption
You can complete the application before you move, but we recommend doing so no earlier than two weeks before your moving date.
Apply for benefits and financial support
You may be eligible for help with your Council Tax and/or Housing Benefit if you are on a low income or receive certain benefits. To check your eligibility and make a claim, go to apply for benefits and financial support.
You also need to make a new claim if you received benefits at your previous address and want to keep claiming them.
Make sure you update your address details with any benefit providers you receive support from, such as Universal Credit, by contacting them directly as soon as possible after your move.
Garden waste subscriptions
If you have a garden waste subscription, contact customer services and ask them to transfer the subscription to your new address.

Book a bulky waste collection
You can book a bulky waste collection if you need to dispose of large household items.
Council tenants
If you are moving out of a council home, please contact us to let us know so we can send you a tenancy termination form to complete.

Apply for a parking permit
If you have moved to a street which has an on-street residents' car parking permit scheme, go to residents' parking schemes – Nottinghamshire County Council for a permit.
Register to vote
When you move home, you need to register to vote at the new address if you want to vote in UK elections, including local elections.
Landlords
We need to know if a tenant is moving in or out of your property so that we can update our Council Tax records. We do not need to know a billing number.
