Newark and Sherwood District Council is continuing its investment in Sconce and Devon Park with the installation of new security gating aimed at improving safety for visitors, reducing anti-social behaviour, and protecting the natural environment.

Newark and Sherwood District Council is committed to economic growth and working with local industry and is continuing its programme of business support with a fully funded support session at Edwinstowe House on Wednesday, 20 May 2026.

The District Council has a statutory duty to assess the housing needs of its residents.   To do this the Council is carrying out a major household survey across the district and is inviting residents to take part.   The aim is to understand residents’ housing needs, including the size, type, and tenure of properties to buy and rent.

Nottinghamshire residents, businesses and organisations have one week left to take part in the Government consultation on Local Government Reorganisation.

Recycling in Newark and Sherwood is about to get simpler. From 1 April 2026, residents will be able to recycle more everyday household items – reducing confusion, boosting recycling rates and helping to protect the environment.

The Great British Spring Clean has returned for 2026, and Newark and Sherwood District Council is once again backing the national campaign to help keep local streets, green spaces and communities clean, safe and welcoming.

A number of parks in the district could receive significant improvements totalling more than £500,000 thanks to Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Parks and Open Spaces Development Plan. 

Local growers and allotment owners across Newark and Sherwood are being encouraged to donate unused fruit and vegetables as part of the Council’s Crop Drop scheme, which helps ensure surplus home-grown produce is shared within the community rather than going to waste.

Big changes are coming to the recycling service in Newark and Sherwood, making it easier for residents to recycle more and reduce waste. These improvements are part of national plans to ensure that everyone, wherever they live, can recycle the same materials - making recycling simpler and more consistent.

On Thursday 5 March 2026, Newark and Sherwood District Council’s full council approved its budget for 2026/27. The Council’s budget is an ambitious, forward‑looking financial plan that protects vital local services, invests in communities, and maintains strong financial resilience during a period of national change with Local Government Reorganisation.
