Those who want to find out more about the work taking place at the former M&S building on Stodman Street in Newark are invited to a drop-in event taking place in Newark Market Place on Friday 8 December between 11am and 3pm.

Last month, Newark and Sherwood District Council hosted its third annual Economic Growth Conference at The Pumping House in Boughton. 

The District Council is pleased to announce that its almost £350,000 investment into play parks across the district is now complete and all ten parks are open for you to enjoy!  

This winter families and friends from across the district will be joining in with the festive celebrations and spending valuable time with their loved ones. For some however, the winter months can feel lonely and to support those who need it most this winter, Newark and Sherwood District Council is launching its Winter Wishes campaign where residents can send warm messages of well wishes anonymously to isolated members of our community.

After being blowing away by the generosity of local people for the past three years, the Palace Theatre is delighted to be bringing back its Palace Presents initiative. Scores of people being supported by amazing local charities have woken up to presents on Christmas Day thanks to the scheme and this year the charities involved will include Newark Women’s Aid, Newark Emmaus Trust and YMCA Newark and Sherwood.

Businesses in Newark and Sherwood can receive help to reduce their energy costs, become more sustainable and introduce innovation solutions through the Newark and Sherwood Accelerator programme, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Anyone can find themselves in a position where they become a carer, that is anyone who provides unpaid care by looking after someone who is older, disabled or seriously ill. For some this may also include juggling a career with their responsibilities as a carer. Newark and Sherwood District Council has been working with the Nottinghamshire Carers Association to give employees the re-assurance and support they need if they find themselves in this position and today has achieved an accreditation as a carer-friendly employer.

On 29 October 2023, the main pool at Southwell Leisure Centre was closed to enable investigations to be undertaken into the cause of water loss from the pool.

Newark and Sherwood District Council is committed to cracking down on anti-social behaviour (ASB) and has increased the number of CCTV cameras it has as part of its work to create a safer district.  In addition, current CCTV was also reviewed, and a replacement scheme created.

Newark and Sherwood District Council is hosting a free safety event in Newark, alongside partners from Nottinghamshire Police and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, and residents are invited to join!
