- If you or someone else may be a victim of stalking ring 101 and report it to the police
The Stalking Protection Act 2019 introduced a new civil Stalking Protection Order (SPO) which can be applied by police forces.
SPOs have been put in place to enable early police intervention so that stalking behaviours can be addressed before they escalate.
Stalking is a criminal offence and can be very dangerous. Stalkers can be motivated by a range of factors; being an ex-partner, an ex-employee, someone who feels jealous or resentful. A stalker can be delusional about the victim's feelings about them or might be a sexually predatory individual.
Nottinghamshire Police have a dedicated Stalking Safeguarding Officer who helps to support the monthly multi-agency Stalking clinic.
SPOs allow the court to impose positive requirements, plus notification requirements on anyone issued with a SPO. Breaching a SPO is a criminal offence and perpetrators will be held to account. SPOs run alongside criminal prosecutions and will provide extra protection for victims.
