Local Volunteers Transform Community Spaces thanks to UK Shared Prosperity Fund

Local volunteers in Newark and Sherwood are transforming community spaces while gaining accredited skills, thanks to skills funding through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). Volunteer It Yourself (VIY) has been awarded £60,000 by Newark and Sherwood District Council to provide skills development opportunities for local young people.

Refurbished Fitness Suites across Newark and Sherwood.

Monday 11 November saw the last of three scheduled fitness suite refurbishments completed at the Newark Sports and Fitness Centre. The first opened just two weeks ago at the Dukeries Leisure Centre in Ollerton, swiftly followed last week with the re-opening of the Blidworth Leisure Centre Fitness Suite.

Music Development Plans Strike a Chord at Council Meeting

Plans to make the district more musical were discussed at this week’s Newark and Sherwood District Council Cabinet meeting. Since the creation of the new Portfolio for Heritage, Culture and the Arts last year, music development has been a focal point at the Council, with the revised Community Plan Objectives placing increased emphasis on music as a way of showcasing excellence in the district, bringing communities together and supporting wellbeing and increased civic pride.

Spectacular animated adventure attracts more than 3,900 visitors to Newark Market Place

Footfall figures from Newark and Sherwood District Council show that Friday night (Friday 1 November) was the busiest night of the year so far. Between 4pm and 9pm more than 3,900 visitors braved the cold November air to enjoy ‘A Likely Story’, a spectacular animated adventure screened onto the historic Town Hall in the heart of Newark.

New Exhibition, ‘A Polish Heart Beats Here’, Now Open at the National Civil War Centre

The National Civil War Centre hosted an opening event on Sunday 27 October for it’s new and vibrant exhibition ‘A Polish Heart Beat’s Here’ / 'Tu Bije Polskie Serce' a captivating tribute to Polish culture and history, which was co-created by Open Doors and the local Polish community. The exhibition will be open to the public from Tuesday 29 October 2024 to Saturday 26 April 2025.
