Newark and Sherwood is home to many fantastic open spaces and parks for residents to enjoy, and the District Council is pleased to announce that it has increased the number of internationally recognised parks within the district, with five local green spaces and parks recognised with the prestigious Green Flag Award.

Increase resources to tackle anti-social behaviour

District Council committed to listening to tenants

4.4 million homes* across the UK are occupied by social housing tenants, including 5531 managed by Newark and Sherwood District Council. The District Council has publicly committed to ensuring that its tenants' safety and satisfaction remains its top priority as it launches its new Tenant Engagement Strategy.

Security gating tackles anti-social behaviour thanks to Safer Streets project

Anti-social behaviour at Newark’s St Marks Place continues to be stopped in its tracks as part of the Safer Streets project. Pedestrian gating, the final security measure to combat crime and anti-social behaviour in the area, has been installed. This, alongside vehicle access gating installed in January 2023, has been installed to prevent public access to the site which had previously been subject to drug use, urinating, and graffiti, leaving residents and workers in the area feeling unsafe.
