On 24 February 2022 Russian forces invaded Ukraine. One year on, Newark and Sherwood District Council will be marking this anniversary by flying the Ukrainian flag on Friday 24 February outside the District Council’s offices at Castle House in Newark.

Newark and Sherwood District Council has once again been awarded with the Park Mark ‘Safer Parking Award’ for its safe and secure car parks around Newark.

THIS week, Newark and Sherwood District Council approved the introduction of a new kerbside glass recycling service across the district. This decision follows a public survey, launched five weeks ago, which saw almost 93% of respondents wanting to see the new service.  This represents more than 10 per cent of households in the district which is considered very high for any survey issued by any organisation.

Newark and Sherwood District Council is planning to modernise, develop and extend a number of the district’s park play areas and equipment during 2023 to a total cost of almost £350,000.

Newark and Sherwood District Council has committed to undertake a series of works to ensure the Jubilee Bridge, as an essential pathway across the River Trent at Newark, is well maintained and future proofed for residents and commuters to use in the years to come.

This week a new community food initiative supporting local residents was launched at Cleveland Square Community Centre in Newark, hosted by Newark and Sherwood District Council and in partnership with The Bread and Butter Thing. 

Newark and Sherwood District Council is setting out proposals to help reduce the number of empty homes in the district by increasing the Council Tax premium charged to owners of properties that have remained empty for a prolonged period of time.

A masterplan that outlines transformational objectives and a strategy for delivery to maximise the Sherwood Forest visitor offer is being developed by Newark and Sherwood District Council and partner organisations.

Thanks to funding by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund a new grant has been awarded to expand the Door to Door service. The funding will allow the service to increase operations into evenings and weekends and offer additional befriending support to attend activities.
