Newark and Sherwood District Council underlines commitment to sports and leisure

With cost pressures on sporting facilities widely reported on across the country, Newark and Sherwood District Council are bucking the trend by re-affirming its commitment to provide sporting facilities across the district, with 2 major new strategies being approved by the Cabinet on 20 February covering playing pitches and outdoor sports as well as an updated ‘Sport and Recreation Facilities Strategy’.

Newark and Sherwood District Council passes motion to combat flooding

Councillor Paul Peacock, Leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “The recent flooding has had a detrimental effect on people’s lives, I’m determined that our council will be proactive in getting all stakeholders around the table to tackle this issue rather than waiting to see what will happen next time flooding happens.

District Council set to commit to combat flooding

With weather warnings issued up and down the UK, it was a close call this weekend as to what impact this may have on our communities across the district. Thankfully, Newark and Sherwood was relatively unscathed…this time. But sadly, we always know there will be a next time. A motion pledging to do everything possible to reduce the impact of local flooding will be presented tonight at Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Full Council meeting. Councillor Paul Taylor, Portfolio Holder for Public Protection and Community Relations, will put the motion forward, encouraging fellow Councillors to vote for its adoption and cement a promise that the District Council will do all it can to help minimise the catastrophic consequences seen in recent floods.
