Chance for teachers to win free school trip!

Posted on: Monday, September 11, 2023

A just-launched competition is offering teachers the chance to win a free trip to the National Civil War Centre for up to 60 pupils! Celebrating the release of brand-new Key Stage 2 learning resources ‘Upside Down World’, the contest simply asks teachers to try out the materials and share photos of their class enjoying them, or examples of their work.

'Upside Down World’ offers children aged 7 to 11 a chance to find out why the British Civil War began and investigate stories of spies, sieges, soldiers and survivors through film, animation, audio, 3D objects and downloadable, interactive classroom resources. Children will learn about battlefield strategy, discover how the war affected ordinary people, have a go at breaking spy codes and write a Civil War petition for a Classroom County Court.

The resources are completely free to use but are perfectly complemented by a fully facilitated Learning visit to the museum. As well as exploring the galleries, pupils can take part in fun and fascinating workshops including opportunities to train as soldiers, enjoy a tour of the town led by costumed characters and become spies for the King!

Councillor Rowan Cozens, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Heritage, Culture and the Arts at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “The National Civil War Centre’s Learning Team have gone from strength to strength, offering brilliant visits which have received some hugely positive feedback, and now these fantastic free resources. They have a treasured skill in education which is bringing what could be seen as a boring subject to life in a truly engaging and fun way. I definitely encourage teachers to get involved and be in with a chance of winning this great prize.”

Teachers have until Friday 20th October to submit their entries and can do so by emailing images of their pupils enjoying the resources or examples of their work to For more information on how to enter, including the terms and conditions, visit The free Upside Down World resources can be found at
