Making payments to the Council
We want to make payment for the goods or services we provide as easy and flexible as possible, as well as helping to reduce the cost to you.
What services can I pay for online?
You can pay for the following things online:
- council tax
- business rates
- housing rent
- garden waste
- bulky waste collection
- benefit overpayments
- invoice payments (includes, pest control invoices, parking permits, trade waste)
- planning payments (includes pre-application advice, planning applications, decisions, policy documents, discharge of conditions)
- licences
- change to your address e.g. adding a name to your house.
- Local Land searches - Con29
- fixed penalty notices (issued by Newark and Sherwood District Council)
Our online payments service is provided by Civicapay, on behalf of the council.
To use the service you will need a debit or credit card. We accept Visa and Mastercard cards only. We do not accept American Express.
Paying by Direct Debit
You can pay for the following by Direct Debit:
Setting up a Direct Debit is easy. Paying by Direct Debit helps us keep our collection costs down, which helps us keep your bills lower.
Paying by telephone
You can pay for the following by telephone:
- council tax
- business rates
- housing rent
- benefit overpayments
- invoice payments (includes Careline payments, pest control invoices, parking permits, trade waste - you cannot use the new 0300 number for this payment)
You can pay over the phone using a debit or credit card. Call 0300 4560478 and select the correct option. You will need to enter your billing/reference number.
Please make sure that you have ready:
- your debit or credit card
- your account reference number
- the amount you wish to pay
- a pen to record the transaction number
Trade waste payments
You can pay your trade waste invoice online, by Direct Debit, over the phone using a card payment or at a post office, Paypoint or Payzone outlet.
Paying at the post office, PayPoint or Payzone outlets
You can pay at the following physical locations:
- post offices will accept cheques (made payable to Post Office Ltd.), cash and debit/credit cards - find your nearest post office
- PayPoint locations will accept cash or debit/credit cards only - find your local PayPoint store
- Payzone will accept cash, debit/credit cards only - find your nearest Payzone location
Pay for parking
PayByPhone cashless parking lets you pay for parking using your mobile phone.
Pay a parking fine
Parking fines/Fixed Penalty Notices can be paid online via the Nottinghamshire County Council website
Paying council invoices
The sundry income section is responsible for collecting a wide range of income on behalf of the council, including charges for:
- building control fees
- commercial waste
- Careline payments
- rents
- car parking permits
- radio link (shop watch alarm system)
The standard payment terms, for all Newark and Sherwood District Council invoices, is payment within 14 days of the date of the invoice.
You can pay your invoice online or via telephone by calling 0300 456 0478.

What to do if you’re having difficulty paying
If you’re having difficulty paying your invoice or account by the due date, please contact us by calling us on 01636 655 353. We will discuss your situation and, if needed, refer you to local and national advice services to help with financial issues.
Disputed invoices
If you disagree with the invoice/account or it is unclear why it has been sent to you, please contact us immediately either by telephone or in writing.
It’s important that you get in touch straight away if you have a query on the invoice/account or dispute it in any way. If you don’t tell us that there is a problem, recovery action will continue which may result in County Court action.
If your query is about the service provided by the council, please also contact the department that issued the invoice. The contact name and telephone number are shown on the invoice.
