Following the Government’s briefing on Wednesday 8 December 2021, the Prime Minister has announced a move to Plan B measures.  These measures will come into force while more data on vaccine efficacy is assessed. Moving to Plan B will help to slow the spread of the Omicron variant and reduce the chances of the NHS coming under unsustainable pressure, while buying time to deliver more boosters.

Newark and Sherwood District Council, in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council and Urban&Civic, has been successful in the bid for a £20 million investment, into the Southern Link Road (SLR), from the central Government’s Levelling Up Fund (LUF). This is one of just 17 successful bids out of 84 UK-wide authorities that submitted, and the only successful bid from a Nottinghamshire district.

Tourism has suffered greatly across the UK at the hand of the pandemic, but while attractions are open again, Newark and Sherwood District Council is keen to support tourist venues as much as possible.  The Tourism Action Group (TAG), coordinated by Newark and Sherwood District Council, has met remotely via Teams since the pandemic's beginning. However, last month, 35 members representing tourism attractions and businesses across the district attended the first in-person event hosted at Southwell Minster in the State Chamber of the Archbishop's Palace.

20 October 2021: Newark and Sherwood residents affected have received a letter from South Kesteven District Council which includes the following information:

Plans to tackle the fire by using heavy plant machinery to spread out the remaining burning material and speed up the process have been finalised and I am writing to give you prior notice that work is expected to commence from Wednesday 20 October.
