Overview

The Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) is a statutory document that must be prepared by local planning authorities. Legislation requires that this document must set out the Authority's policies to facilitate involvement of those persons and organisations who have an interest in the preparation of a local plan, other planning policy documents, neighbourhood plans and the consideration of planning applications. 

Following changes to allow public speaking at Planning Committee, the SCI has been amended to reflect this. We are seeking your views on the draft document that contains these changes and we have also taken the opportunity to make changes reflecting current policy and practice. The draft SCI will be a revision of the existing SCI which was adopted in March 2015.

Comments are now being sought on the Draft SCI from 8th April 2024 to 20th May 2024.

What happens next

We will review all responses to the consultation and update the SCI as appropriate. We will then submit a report to Cabinet for formal adoption in June 2024.

Statement of Community Involvement (2015)

The Statement of Community Involvement (March 2015) (PDF File, 793kb) explains how Newark and Sherwood District Council helps individuals, groups and communities take part in the planning system, including planning policy documents and planning applications.

Since the production of our first SCI in 2006, there have been significant changes to the planning system. We have updated the SCI to respond to the requirements of new legislation. The updated SCI was adopted at a meeting of the Economic Development Committee on 11 March 2015.
